Maldives, April '11
Land photos are listed after the underwater photos.
A bit about the trip: Flights were via Dubai to Male and then on a 40 minute seaplane flight across to the island (which was quite an experience since that's the sort of thing you see in the Jewel of the Nile type movies only!). The island comprises one resort only with a variety of accommodation, restaurants, bars, pools and watersport activities, a little Rodeo Drive of its own, gym and golfing facilities. Also, it is a nice spot for families with young children as long as they are proficient in water. April seemed a good time of the year, although temperatures still hovered around the 35 degree mark although water temperatures were close on 30!
Diving works a little differently to what we are used to, as you pay seperately for the dive and the boat ride. Reef life was not overly impressive however the topographical structures of the reefs are. Not alot of macro life but always a surprise on the dives like mantas, devil and eagle rays, loads of turtles, guitar sharks, reefs COVERED in anemeonies, beautiful structures, endless visibility, flourescent night dives, warm water and easy boat rides and kitting up facilities.
Everything on the island is expensive so not a good idea to go over if you need to count your pennies, you need to be willing to come back with a hefty lunch / bar bill and extra activities, in which case you will most certainly enjoy the trip. Alternatively, give yourself enough time to save up first!
